Cambodia puts One Health into practice to tackle rabies

By: BMZ

Description

Rabies is endemic in Cambodia. There are an estimated 375,000 cases of dog bite each year, and up to 800 people die annually from the disease.

Surveillance and testing of infected animals is hindered by cultural practices including the dog meat trade.

However a 3 year project in Battambang province is applying Integrated Bite Case Management for the first time, ensuring urgent cases of dog bite are identified and investigated, and crucially, information is shared across human and animal health sectors.
