United Against Rabies Steering Group Expression of Interest

Produced by: United Against Rabies Forum

Description

The United Against Rabies (UAR) Forum was established in 2020 to create a more inclusive network of state and non-state actors alongside the Tripartite, who share a common vision for rabies elimination and wish to work together to achieve it. The overarching objective of the UAR Forum is to implement the approaches set out in Zero by 30 and help to achieve its goals.

The Steering Group provides oversight and supports the UAR Forum to create an enabling environment so that members and countries can focus on activities that efficiently contribute to Zero by 30, while benefitting from the sharing of knowledge, experience, ideas and information.

Following recommendations from the UAR Forum in November 2023, the Steering Group will transition in 2024 to meet the evolving needs of the network, and will be comprised of an independent co-chair, representatives of FAO, WHO and WOAH, and a focal point for each of the following 2024 priority objectives:

  • Engage priority rabies-endemic countries and support development and implementation of National Strategic Plnas
  • Engage local authorities and communities to prioritise rabies elimination at the local level
  • Facilitate access to human post-exposure prophylaxis, including supporting the implementation of the Gavi strategy on rabies
  • Promote improved surveillance, data sharing and data reporting
  • Support advocacy and resource mobilisation for rabies control
